FUNGAL INFECTION
Fungal infections come in many forms but most people know the common term of 'Athletes Foot'. Weeping, itching skin, sometimes with little blisters are the common complaints of this condition. Sometimes painful itchy cuts between toes are another sign. Fungal infections in nails result in them appearing soft, brown, crumbly often with a musty odour. Dealing with nail conditions is particularly difficult, but improvements can often be obtained, albeit very slowly, with anti fungal paint. Skin treatment can be considerably faster.
How do I treat the fungal infection?
‘Lamisil’ cream/spray powder is a modern fast acting medication to eradicate fungal infections of the skin. Importantly few people treat their footwear! Many spend a great deal of time treating the skin only to have the infection come back as soon as a medication is finished. Treat the footwear and dust in the socks too with ‘Daktarin Powder’ a broad spectrum anti-fungal. Small areas of fungal nail infection can be treated with MYKORED tincture however any thickened nail(s) must be buffed/filed down almost flat first. Use the product about three times per day. Patience is needed to see an improvement in nails as it can take approximately 9 months for them to grow out. Lamisil anti-fungal tablets may also be obtained via prescription from your local doctor however this tablet is not suitable for everyone due to some potential side effects (see your local doctor for advice on tablets). Remember fungal infections can spread to others, use your own bath mat and foot towel.
I mportant: After you have cleared the infection up use flip-flop type sandals in potentially infectious places like changing rooms etc. to prevent possible re-infection.
